Gerard has more than a decade of experience as a physician assistant in the specialty of pain management and has worked side by side with Dr. Sanjay Bakshi throughout his career. “When I was in college, I came to know Dr. Bakshi through my father, who was a patient with multiple back problems,” said Gerard. “My dad was the one who first encouraged me to become a physician assistant – and even more so, to work with Dr. Bakshi.”
Gerard has co-authored several book chapters with Dr. Bakshi, including chapters on spinal cord stimulation, lumbar epidural injections and lumbar facet joint injections/medial branch blocks that have been published by Jaypee Brothers Publishing. He has also served as PA/NP course co-director for the NY/NJSIPP Pain Medicine Symposium and has lectured on “Perioperative Evaluation of Patients with Pain of Spinal Origin.”
Gerard also holds an associate certification in controlled substances management from the American Association of Allied Interventional Pain Management Professionals and is board-certified with the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants with special recognition in surgery.
Gerard says he finds pain management very rewarding. “Our patients often come to us with excruciating back or neck pain, and they are so thankful when we can provide treatment to alleviate their pain and they can resume their normal activities of daily living and return to work.”
Gerard is also active with youth sports and coaches a mite-level youth hockey travel team.
